Kolkata, Aug. 14 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today reiterated her allegations that Bengali-speaking people are being harassed in BJP-ruled states, urging respect for the language and its cultural legacy.
Speaking at the state's 'Kanyashree Day' celebration, she recounted a recent incident where a person was allegedly denied a hotel room in Noida solely for speaking Bengali.
"Those who try to discriminate against Bengalis - do they even know the language of icons like Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Khudiram Bose, Prafulla Chaki, Raja Rammohan Roy, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and Swami Vivekananda? Bengali has a sweetness found nowhere else," she said.
