Siliguri, Oct. 9 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said the rescue operation in rain and landslide -battered North Bengal is over and the restoration works for the damaged infrastructure have begun on a war footing.
Before leaving for Kolkata after spending three days in north Bengal, Banerjee said she met 21 families, whose relatives were killed in the rains and landslides on Sunday, and had paid compensation as announced of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin. The government has also dispatched 400 kits, containing essential foods and other logistics.
She said the bodies of two persons from Nepal and Bhutan were yet to be identified and arrangements would be made for sending the bodies back.
