Kolkata, Oct. 12 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said that her government does not wait for the Centre's assistance during crises, adding that the state has already initiated reconstruction work in the disaster-hit regions of North Bengal.
"West Bengal does not sit idle waiting for the Centre's help. The state government has already started reconstruction work on its own initiative," Banerjee told reporters at the Kolkata airport before leaving for North Bengal.
The Chief Minister had returned to Kolkata on 8 October after an on-ground assessment of the flood- and landslide-affected areas.
Merely three days later, she is heading back to North Bengal to review the progress of relief and rehabilitation measures.
