Kolkata, Aug. 18 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today announced a new initiative - 'Sramashree' to rehabilitate Bengali migrant labourers returning to the state, amid
growing concerns that Bengalis are being "pushed to Bangladesh or sent to jail" in different
states of the country.
"Many people from Bengal are working in different parts of the country and abroad. They are subjected to inhuman torture but they should not feel that they are alone. The state government
is always beside you and we will do everything to ensure their safety and security," the chief
minister said.
