Siliguri, Oct. 7 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today visited the landslide-hit Mirik area in Darjeeling district and distributed cheques of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of 16 people who lost their lives.
She assured "Roti, Kapda aur Makan" (bread, clothing, and shelter) to all affected families on behalf of the state government.
Banerjee also announced the immediate repair of the damaged Dudhia bridge within a month to make it motorable and promised the construction of a new steel bridge for heavy vehicles within a year.
She further assured government jobs under the Home Guard category as a special compensatory appointment for eligible family members of the deceased.
