Kolkata, Jan. 12 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday alleged serious procedural lapses in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state, hinting at a deliberate attempt by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to delete the names of genuine voters under the pretext of "logical discrepancies".

In her fifth letter to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on the issue, Banerjee claimed that the SIR process was resulting in "undue harassment of citizens, wrongful deletion of eligible electors and their consequent disenfranchisement".

The chief minister flagged the non-issuance of acknowledgements for documents submitted by voters during SIR hearings as one of the most serious flaws.
