Kolkata, June 24 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday squarely blamed the Central government and the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) for the recent floods that have devastated several districts of the state, calling the situation largely "man-made."

Addressing the Assembly on Tuesday, Banerjee said uncoordinated and unannounced release of water from DVC dams like Maithon and Panchet, along with similar actions by neighbouring states including Bihar and Jharkhand, have inundated large parts of South Bengal.
