Kolkata, Feb. 1 -- : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has filed a case in the Supreme Court against the Election Commission of India and the state's Chief Electoral Officer, challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The development came to light on Sunday, a day ahead of her scheduled meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi on Monday.

Political observers see the legal move, coming just before the meeting, as deepening the confrontation between the West Bengal government and the Election Commission.

The Chief Minister is set to meet the CEC amid growing tension over the SIR process being carried out in the state.
