Kolkata, Aug. 15 -- Expressing deep sorrow over the death of 10 pilgrims in a horrific bus accident in East Burdwan, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced financial aid of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased.

She also announced Rs 1 lakh for the seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries.

The announcement came after she attended an Independence Day tea gathering at Raj Bhavan.

The tragedy struck around 7 a.m. on Independence Day when a passenger bus travelling from Tarakeshwar to Asansol rammed into the rear of a stationary lorry on National Highway 19 near Nabab-hat Fagupur. The collision was so severe that the front portion of the bus was completely crushed.
