Kolkata, Jan. 28 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday alleged that the BJP-led Central government was trying to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the name of Special Intensive Revision (SIR), asserting that such a move would not be allowed in the state.
Banerjee expressing condolences over deaths allegedly linked to SIR-related distress said, "This is a conspiracy to do NRC in the name of SIR".
"This is Bengal. We will not allow anyone to be sent to detention camps. There will be no NRC. We are here to protect your rights," she added.
Claiming that people were being intimidated, the Chief Minister said the threats would come to nothing.
