Kolkata, July 28 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Union government, accusing them of orchestrating a "conspiracy" to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in West Bengal with the Election Commission of India (ECI) as a "partner."

She made the remarks during a protest rally in Birbhum district, marking the launch of the Trinamool Congress' (TMC) weekly agitation program against what it calls a targeted harassment of Bengali-speaking people in BJP-ruled states.
