Aizawl, Aug. 25 -- Malaria continues to pose a significant health challenge in Mizoram, with six fatalities recorded between January and July this year, according to officials from the State Health and Family Welfare Department's National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (SVBDCP).

During this seven-month period, a total of 6,119 malaria cases were detected. Five of the deaths were linked to malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum (Pf), while one fatality was attributed to Plasmodium vivax (Pv). The most affected areas are located along the international borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh, as well as the interstate boundaries with Assam and Tripura.
