Mumbai, March 26 -- Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Wednesday directed his department to implement the compulsory use of Marathi language for all social messages, advertisements and awareness campaigns displayed on commercial vehicles registered in Maharashtra from Gudi Padwa festival that falls on March 30.

He said that Marathi is the official language of Maharashtra and is spoken by the majority of its citizens.

He highlighted that under the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Marathi has been granted the status of a classical language.
