Colombo, April 29 -- Shammi Silva has stepped down as president of Sri Lanka Cricket, bringing an end to his long tenure at the helm of the board.

His resignation comes amid mounting pressure from the government, with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake pushing for a change in leadership.

Silva, who had been in charge since 2019, resigned along with the entire set of office-bearers and members of the executive committee. The decision, which had been discussed earlier, takes immediate effect and clears the way for an interim administration to take charge of the board.
