Gangtok, June 6 -- A large section of the metal road network on the Chungthang-Sankalang route in north
Sikkim on Friday caved in between Safoo and Shipgyer, completely cutting off vehicular movement in
the region.
The collapse happened following torrents, cutting off connectivity even further as the entire north district
was reeling under massive monsoon rains. The movement of essential commodities has become more difficult
in the district.
The collapse has left a gaping void in the vital road connecting key parts of north Sikkim.
The affected stretch poses a serious challenge for both civilians and security forces, many of whom were
seen navigating the treacherous terrain on foot.
