Chandigarh, July 18 -- The Shiromani Akali Dal suffered a major setback in Kharar as senior leader and real estate businessman Ranjit Singh Gill announced his resignation from the party.
Gill, who has contested the Kharar Assembly seat twice and was currently serving as the constituency in-charge, was regarded as a close confidant of SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Confirming his decision, Gill said he had parted ways with the party after detailed consultations with local workers. He expressed dissatisfaction over recent developments within the party, particularly the removal of Jathedars from Akal Takht Sahib, a move that he said sparked resentment among people in the region.
