Kolkata, May 2 -- A major fire broke out at a chemical factory at Sector V in Salt Lake, the eastern part of the city, where a fire fighting vehicle was deployed even as black thick smoke engulfed the area creating problems for the firefighter to go close to the origin of the blaze, official sources said.
West Bengal fire minister Sujit Bose said there was no report of any casualty in the blaze, which was first noticed around 2.45 pm.
The incident comes three days after a major fire at Rituraj Hotel in Burrabazar killed 14 people.
Bose, who reached the spot, said the fire-fighting personnel deployed ladders to spray water from above to combat the leaping flames.
