Nagpur, Dec. 12 -- The Maharashtra Legislature approved the Maharashtra State Lokayukta Amendment Bill, 2025, in both houses after incorporating three minor revisions proposed by the central government. The updated law, which will come into force once the governor gives assent, grants the state's anti-corruption ombudsman the authority to investigate the Chief Minister, cabinet ministers and other public officials on allegations of corruption.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who introduced the Bill in the assembly, said on Thursday that the centre had sought three adjustments to the earlier version of the Lokayukta Bill passed by the assembly in December 2022 and the council in December 2023.
