Amravati, Dec. 24 -- The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), in collaboration with the Maharashtra Forest Department, has successfully tagged 15 long-billed vultures at the Melghat Tiger Reserve in Amravati district, an official BNHS press release said on Wednesday.
Bird tagging is an important scientific tool used to study movement patterns, migration routes, lifespan, survival rates, and population trends, aiding long-term conservation efforts.
The tagging exercise was carried out on December 19 and was led by Dr. Sachin Ranade, with support from Bhaskar Das and Athira, members of the Vulture Reintroduction Programme.
Of the 15 vultures, 11 were equipped with GSM tags, while four were fitted with satellite-based PTT tags.
