Pune, Sept. 25 -- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today indicated that the state government plans to introduce a "creamy layer" classification within the Scheduled Castes (SC) reservation system, similar to the existing one for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

Speaking at a programme in Pune, Fadnavis said the move aims to ensure that reservation benefits are not limited to a few dominant groups within the category but are extended to a wider section of eligible communities.

In the OBC category, those in the advanced sections are excluded from reservation benefits due to the creamy layer and non-creamy layer classification. A similar system will be introduced for Scheduled Castes in the coming months, he added.
