Mumbai, Nov. 12 -- The Maharashtra government has decided to acquire the historic India House in London, the early twentieth-century residence associated with freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and several other Indian revolutionaries, for conversion into a memorial dedicated to India's freedom movement.

The decision was announced by State Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar on Wednesday, who said that members of the Indian community in London had drawn attention to the building's historical significance during his recent official visit to the United Kingdom.
