Nashik, April 9 -- To curb the rampant illegal mining and unauthorized stone crusher operations occurring across the state of Maharashtra, the State Government has decided to implement a major administrative change.

The authority to grant permissions for mining operations involving quantities ranging from 500 to 2000 brass will no longer remain at the local level. Instead, it will be transferred directly to the District Collector level. (*One brass is equivalent to 100 cubic feet)Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has taken this significant decision to amend the existing regulations to facilitate this change.

MLA Sunil Prabhu had raised this issue through a 'Calling Attention Motion' in the Legislative Assembly.
