Nagpur, Dec. 9 -- : Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. (Mahavitaran) has submitted a fresh proposal seeking additional recovery of Rs 11,750 crore from electricity consumers, triggering concern across industrial, agricultural and domestic sectors.

The development comes after the Bombay High Court, on June 25, annulled the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission's (MERC) unilateral tariff-hike order. The court ruling has renewed scrutiny of MERC's decision-making processes and the state government's handling of the electricity tariff structure.

Congress leader Nitin Raut raised the issue in the State Assembly today, alleging that Mahavitaran's demand would impose an excessive financial burden on the public.
