Mumbai, July 16 -- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today announced a structural overhaul of probe for finding missing persons, ordering setting up of dedicated "missing cells" in every police station across the state.

Each unit will be commanded by a woman Assistant Police Inspector (API), marking a significant escalation in the response to rising disappearance cases. The decision follows the demonstrated success of Operation Muskan, which has recovered 41,193 missing children to date.

Building on this framework, Operation Shodh was launched for tracing women and children, yielding 6,324 recoveries within its inaugural month (April 17 - May 15, 2025). This includes 4,960 women and 1,364 children officially reported missing, p...
