Mumbai, Jan. 8 -- The Maharashtra government has declared a public holiday on Thursday, January 15, in all municipal corporation areas where civic elections are scheduled, with the aim of facilitating maximum voter participation.

A formal notification issued by the state administration said the holiday will be applicable across all 29 municipal corporations going to the polls. In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the holiday will be observed in the jurisdictions of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (MCGM), Thane, Navi Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan-Dombivli, Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar and Panvel.

In the rest of the state, the public holiday will apply in Nashik, Malegaon, Ahmednagar, Dhule, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, ...
