Mumbai, March 11 -- Maharashtra's economy is so strong that if the state were an independent country, it would rank as the 30th largest economy in the world, claimed Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today.

He said the state has surpassed countries such as Austria, Thailand and Vietnam in terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Replying to the budget discussion in the Maharashtra Assembly, Fadnavis highlighted the state's economic progress and said Maharashtra's economy has been expanding rapidly with support from the central government. He also presented data on GDP growth, debt management and other economic indicators while responding to criticism from the opposition.
