Mumbai, June 15 -- At least eight people have lost their lives across Maharashtra due to lightning strikes following intense rainfall, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the coastal districts of Ratnagiri and Raigad for the next 24 hours, warning of heavy to extremely heavy showers.
The fatalities were reported in several places including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nandurbar, Dhule, Amravati and Nashik
Apart from issuing the red alert, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Palghar, Thane, Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur ghats, as well as Sindhudurg.
