Pune, Dec. 4 -- A grand programme was held in Pune on Wednesday to mark the 250th birth anniversary of Maharaja Yashwantrao Holkar, the valiant warrior of the Maratha Empire, a pioneer of the freedom struggle, who compelled the British to kneel.
Santosh Shinde, the State spokesperson of Sambhaji Brigade today, said that Maharaja Yashwantrao Holkar blew the trumpet of war against British injustice and fought directly for Swarajya. In the Battle of Hadapsar, he crushed the British and forced them to flee. His valor was so formidable that even the Peshwas stepped back, he said.
Today is a day to remember this great warrior who shook the British and carved his name in history, he added.
