Hyderabad, Dec. 21 -- Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday claimed that the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) has turned profitable due to the Mahalakshmi Scheme, which provides free bus travel for women.
He was speaking at a review meeting with RTC and BC Welfare Department officials at Praja Bhavan.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the scheme has enabled 25.5 crore free bus journeys so far, marking a significant step towards women's empowerment. He noted that government support and loans from women's self-help groups helped add new buses, while efforts are underway to develop depots and bus stations and explore new revenue streams.
