Akola, Sept. 1 -- A 27-year-old farmer's son, Abhilash, committed suicide in Repadkhed village of Maharashtra's Akola district after torrential rains destroyed his family's three-acre crop four days ago, officials said today.
The son of farmer Gajanan Milkhe consumed poison in the wake of the destruction of crops and mounting debt pressures.
He succumbed during treatment at an Akola hospital.
The village observed his funeral today amidst widespread mourning, with hundreds of farmers and agricultural organisations attending.
The attendees expressed anger against the government, accusing it of empty loan waiver promises and zero actual help.
