Chandrapur, Nov. 21 -- A group of unidentified thieves allegedly used a gas-cutter to break open a Bank of India ATM in Rampur, Rajura taluka in Maharashtra's Chandrapur late Thursday night, making away with Rs 9.39 lakh in cash, police said on Friday.

According to officials, the ATM is located inside the Bank of India branch building at Rampur.

Preliminary inquiry suggests the accused had been surveying the location for several days. Around midnight, they reportedly cut open the machine using a gas-cutter and escaped with the cash.

The incident came to light on Friday morning, following which the branch manager filed a complaint with the local police.
