Mumbai, April 14 -- Senior journalist Surendra Modi allegedly committed suicide by jumping from a residential building in south Mumbai on Monday.
Modi was unmarried and was staying alone.
Police have registered an offence and investigation is going on.
Modi was a crime reporter and was widely known for his sharp, on-the-ground reporting and an exceptional network of sources.
He worked with Janmabhoomi, a Gujarati daily, for several decades and covered some of the city's most high-profile crime stories.
He was also actively associated with the Mumbai Crime Reporters' Association and served as the President of the Gujarati Patrakar Sangh.
