Thane, June 7 -- Tension gripped the Durgadi Fort area in Kalyan town of Mahrashtra on Saturday when activists from both groups of rival Shiv Sena allegedly attempted to reach the goddess Durga temple located atop the fort, while Eid ul-Azha prayers were being held peacefully at its foothills.

Workers from both the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and the faction led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde arrived separately at the base of the fort in the morning. They staged bell-ringing protests and demanded access to the temple, converging at Shivaji Chowk and raising slogans calling for the "liberation of Durgadi Fort."
