Sangli, June 9 -- The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Mumbai and Sangli division on Monday arrested a deputy commissioner of the Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Corporation (SMKMC) for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs seven lakh.

Arrested accused, identified as Vaibha Vijay Sable (31), resident of the city and deputy commissioner of SMKMC, had demanded Rs 10 lakh as bribe from complainant for giving permission for construction of a high-rise 24-storey building in the city.

Then, the matter was settled at Rs seven lakh.

Later, complainant informed about this to ACB's Mumbai and Sangli office, whose team laid a trap after verifying the facts of complaint and arrested Sable for demanding bribe, an official press release said here. UNI SSS ...
