Mumbai, May 15 -- The Wagle Estate police in neighbouring Thane city have seized banned tobacco products collectively worth Rs 40,000 and arrested two people for their alleged involvement in illegal transportation and distribution of these substances, an official said on Thursday.

The operation took place on Wednesday night when a police team, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a tempo suspected of carrying contraband. Upon inspection, officers discovered a consignment of prohibited gutka and scented tobacco brands being transported in the vehicle.

The arrested men have been identified as Ayush Chotelal Nigam (22), the driver of the tempo, and Shivam Sitaram Nigam (22). Both have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sa...
