Mumbai, Jan. 29 -- Maharashtra Food & Civil Supplies Minister Dhananjay Munde on Wednesday met Union Food & Civil Supplies Minister Pralhad Joshi in Delhi and sought his approval for increasing the target of food distribution given to the state from 7 crore to 8.2 crore.

An official press statement stated that the state government had submitted a proposal to the central government in 2021 in view of rise in population in the last decade.

Under the revised distribution of beneficiaries to the state of Maharashtra under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013, a target of 7 crore 16 thousand was given based on the then population.
