Nagpur, Dec. 10 -- Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday announced that liquor shops, both those selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and country liquor, must obtain mandatory consent from registered housing societies before starting operations in commercial spaces located on their premises.
Pawar, who also heads the state excise department, instructed that this policy be implemented uniformly across Maharashtra.
He made the statement in the Lower House of the Assembly while replying to a question raised by BJP MLA Shankar Jagtap from Pune's Chinchwad constituency.
Jagtap demanded the cancellation of the licences of certain liquor shops operating in the Chinchwad-Kalewadi area.
