Chandrapur, Nov. 7 -- A farmer was killed by a tiger on Thursday while picking cotton in a field near Amboli Road in Chimur tehsil of Maharashtra's Chandrapur district, officials said.

The deceased was identified as Eeshwar Bharde, a local resident.

According to the officials, tiger sightings had been frequent in the area over the past few days. However, the animal attacked Bharde while he was working in the field, killing him on the spot.

The incident triggered panic among villagers and reignited anger over recurring human-wildlife conflicts in the region.

Following the attack, residents staged a protest by blocking the road with the victim's body, demanding accountability from the forest department and district administration.
