Gondia, Sept. 27 -- Police have arrested eight persons for allegedly cheating a rice mill owner of Rs 1 crore in Maharashtra's Gondia district on the pretext of supplying rice at lower rates, officials said today.
The complainant, Virendrakumar Radheshyam Lilhare (45), lodged a report stating that he was introduced to two of the accused, Rameshwar Dhurwe and Hemlata Bais, both residents of Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh, who posed as rice traders and financiers.
They allegedly persuaded him to purchase rice worth Rs 1 crore at a reduced price, assuring delivery the next day. However, after collecting the money on September 23, the accused failed to supply the stock.
