Yavatmal, March 4 -- Police have arrested a 52-year-old man from Maharashtra's Yavatmal district in connection with an alleged firing incident reported last month in Palghar district, officials said today.
The accused, identified as Umesh alias Pralhad Gharat, had allegedly opened fire at the father of a local grocer in the early hours of February 23 following a dispute related to the latter's love marriage, police said.
According to Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh, the accused was opposed to the marriage as the woman had been raised by him since childhood.
In a fit of anger, he allegedly barged into the victim's residence, fired a shot, assaulted the couple and threw chilli powder at them before fleeing the scene.
