Kolhapur, Feb. 5 -- At least 100 villagers have been hospitalised after 300 of them took ill after partaking 'prasad' in annual fair of local deity Goddess Kalyantai Mata at Shivnakwadi hamlet in Shirol village of the district.

The 'prasad', comprising 'kheer' (a sweet preparation made from milk), was served by organisers to the villagers on Tuesday night.

However, from early Wednesday morning, some of the villagers started complaining of diarrhoea, nausea and fever due to suspected food poisoning.

About 100 persons were rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial hospital in nearby Ichalkaraji town, where they are undergoing medical treatment.
