Nagpur/Gadchiroli, Sept. 20 -- Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule today said tribal cultivators in the state will soon be permitted to lease their barren land to private firms for farming or mineral extraction, providing them with an additional source of livelihood.
Interacting with media persons in Gadchiroli, Bawankule said, Legislation will be introduced shortly. Under this policy, tribal farmers will have the right to directly lease their land to private parties for agricultural use or for mining purposes."He clarified that the measure would be applicable only to barren or uncultivated land, not to fertile plots. The process will involve the district collector to maintain fairness and accountability, he added.
