Nagpur, Dec. 2 -- Several teachers' and non-teaching staff unions in Maharashtra have called for a statewide school shutdown on 5 December in protest against recent government policies and unresolved service-related demands, a press release said today.

The primary demands include the immediate cancellation of the ongoing recruitment through the Pavitra Portal, urgent commencement of recruitment for non-teaching staff, release of long-pending non-salary grants, waiver of property tax for schools and educational institutions, and installation of solar power systems in government-aided schools. Unions have also demanded complete reimbursement of pending funds under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
