Mumbai, May 7 -- Maharashtra reported 54,022 new COVID-19 cases and 898 deaths in the last 24 hours, a health bulletin said on Thursday.
The fresh surge has taken the infections tally to 49,96,758 while the death toll to 74,414.
At the same time,37,386 peoples recovered from the virus, taking the number of recoveries to 42,65,326 in the state.
The recovery rate has now fallen to 85.36 per cent, owing to the sudden spurt in cases. The fatality rate is 1.49 per cent.
The state has an active caseload of 6,54,788 patients, undergoing treatment at different Covid Care Centres and hospitals.
