Mumbai, May 26 -- Maharashtra has reported 43 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, pushing the number of active cases in the state to 209, an official said on Monday.

According to the Public Health Department, Mumbai continues to lead the surge, recording 35 new infections, while Pune reported eight. The state has logged a total of 242 COVID-19 cases so far in May, marking a significant increase compared to previous months.

Since January 1, Maharashtra has conducted 7,389 COVID-19 tests, with 300 individuals testing positive. Of these, Mumbai alone has accounted for 248 cases, representing over 80 per cent of the state's total infections this year.
