Mumbai, May 26 -- With prediction of heavy rains in Mumbai, Konkan and western Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde told officials to be alert and carry out relief work.

Shinde spoke to Thane and Nashik district collectors as well as Thane and Mumbai municipal corporation commissioners and issued instructions related to combating heavy rains.

He took situational reports from Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Palghar, Raigad district collectors and discussed relief works.

The disaster management centres in all these districts will remain open 24 hours and the officers of these parties have been told to work vigilantly.
