Mumbai, Jan. 15 -- The State Election Commission on Thursday rejected allegations made by the Thackeray brothers over the use of the Printing Auxiliary Display Unit (PADU), clarifying that the device would be deployed only if technical difficulties arise during vote counting and only in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections.

The commission stated that PADU would not be used for vote counting in any municipal corporation outside Mumbai. Even within Mumbai, its use would be strictly limited to exceptional situations where technical problems occur while counting of votes is recorded on Electronic Voting Machines.
