Mumbai, Aug. 5 -- The Maharashtra government will take the initiative to bring back the elephant Mahadevi, currently housed at the Vantara Wildlife Centre in Gujarat, to the Nandani Math in Kolhapur, assured Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today.
The 36-year-old elephant Mahadevi, who had been a resident of Nandani Math for the past over 30 years, was recently relocated to Vantara as per the Supreme Court's order.
The decision sparked strong opposition from Kolhapur residents, who have voiced their dissent in various ways.
To address the emotional and cultural significance of the issue for the people of Kolhapur, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Fadnavis.
