Nagpur, Dec. 9 -- Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday announced in the Assembly that the state government will move to amend the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) so that it can be used against suppliers and distributors of banned products such as gutkha, pan masala, and charas.
Fadnavis, who also holds the home portfolio, told the Assembly that under the current version of the Act, its invocation requires an element of threat or physical harm, a provision that makes it difficult to use against habitual vendors of banned products.
He said the government has sent a proposal to the Home Department to broaden the Act so that repeat suppliers can be booked under it.
