Nagpur, Nov. 28 -- The Maharashtra government has decided to discontinue the use of Aadhaar cards as valid proof of date of birth and the decision,was taken under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, after rising complaints of forged birth certificates and misuse of documents.
According to the Revenue Department, Aadhaar card is not a proof of date of birth. Hence any birth certificates issued solely on the basis of Aadhaar will be cancelled, and action will be taken against officials responsible for approving such documents.
The department clarified that Aadhaar is not linked to any official birth registration record and therefore cannot serve as birth proof.
